Within the past few years it has become more and more acceptable to go with colored wedding dresses. One popular color is pink. Pink wedding dresses have become quite fashionable, since the color is both feminine and romantic. In fact, some are even calling pink the “new white” for the year. Of course there are some things to keep in mind if you decide you want to follow the trend and have a pink wedding dress of your own for your big day.
Many Shades to Choose From
Some women are turned off on the idea of pink wedding dresses because they envision a dress is Barbie doll pink. Actually you will find that there are many different shades of pink to choose from. Some are bright and eye catching, while some are subtle and very close to the traditional white many women have for wedding gowns. Some of the shades of pink that are available include baby, rose, champagne, pearl, shell, iridescent, blush, fuchsia, magenta, and mauve. Usually the lighter shades are better choices for weddings.
Coordination Other Colors with the Dress
If you decide to go with one of the beautiful pink wedding dresses available, you may be wondering what other colors are going to go well with this color of a dress. Well neutral colors always work well, such as champagne, ivory, silver, white, and black. These colors look good with any shade of pink. You don’t have to stick with neutrals though. There are other wonderful colors that look amazing with pink, such as chocolate, turquoise, sage green, lavender, or certain shades of yellow.
Dress Styles
For the most part, pink wedding dresses come in styles that are very romantic and feminine. Most wedding dresses in this color come in dresses in the ball gown style or A-line style. Usually you’ll find that the necklines of these dresses come in sweetheart necklines or scoop necklines, and many times the accents of the dresses are of lace, beading, or crystal. Of course if you don’t want to go with a dress that is totally pink, you can instead choose a wedding gown in white that has some pink accents. Perhaps a sash of pink, some trim on the dress in pink, or even embroidery on the dress that is pink.
Where to Find Them
Once you decide that you want a wedding dress in pink, knowing where to find them often can be a mystery. Top designers often provide pink wedding dresses, which is a good place to start looking. However, if you can’t afford a designer dress, you still have some choices. Some bridal shops will dye a dress for you in the shade of pink you desire. You may want to choose to have a seamstress make the dress for you or add on some pink accents to a dress that you purchase. Since pink is becoming such a hot color, more and more bridal stores are beginning to carry pink options for brides who want to get married in this beautiful color.
So, you no longer have to wear the traditional white gown to your wedding. Pink is perfectly acceptable and a hot choice these days. Whether you choose a pale shade of pink or something more vibrant, it is sure to make you look incredible on your big day.

Bridal gowns in pink instead of white! How I wish I could’ve had that color. But there was taboo in my family against any color but virginal white. My wedding dress would’ve been more becoming to ME had it been a colored wedding gown. I don’t look my best in white.
a girl friend has gone for pink and her bridsmaids in white and it looks great. never thought it would but if you have the guts then go for it and be different.
Having only got married 18mnths ago, wedding dress plans are still very fresh in my mind. I actually chose a ivory silk lining, with bright pink, turquoise, yellow, green flowered tule - I loved it! My stepdaughts wore lovely matching coloured dresses in turquoise and my husband and 3 sons wore several different shades of torquoise ties - very bright, summery and I thought perfect.
For those of us that are getting married second or plus times around, being able to choose what we want in colours that still feels like a wedding dress is great.
As for the pink ‘barbie doll’ look…that’s not me, but I’m sure the brides out there that are like that will look lovely.
We also have to remember in todays day and age of living together first, the type of girls we are bright coloured, fun, fresh wedding dresses instead of your traditional white are always a great option and it’s nice to see.
Okay call me old fashioned but who decides that tradition should change. What did they run out of white wedding dresses. This is just wrong. White is traditional and should remain. Everything seems to be going green these days so maybe next year the color should be green and disposable.
Thanks for the comments guys.
@ Dianne - Sorry to hear that white was not your color and you somehow had to go through with it. I wish people are more open towards colored wedding dresses. That is the trend now. We all wanna look good for our wedding, and the only way to do that is to listen to your own heart. But then again, no use crying over spilled milk ey…
@ Ian - My thoughts exactly. Be daring, be bold, be different… and be pink.
@ Julie - I love your description of your wedding dress. I’m sure you looked lovely in it on your wedding day. Hope it’s still not too late for me to wish you joy and happiness always. All the best for your future together.
@ Mike - Don’t get me wrong. Not everybody wants a traditional wedding. People want change once in a while. Personally, I think it’s very brave to go against the traditional white wedding dresses. Maybe you’re right, who knows next year there might even be green wedding dresses. I’m not at all surprised with the way things are going at the moment.
Great to know that the fashion is changing. Pink might be a good idea but I still part of the traditional ones … like the white better it still gives something special but for those that dare it i nice bring a bit of colours in.
Hi Nat. There’s nothing wrong with being part of the traditional ones. You can also be very creative with your white wedding dress by adding a little bit of pink here and there. You don’t have to use all pink and all white. Something to consider. Thanks for your comment Nat.
A pink wedding gown certainly adds more feminine touch in a wedding. It’s one unique dress to have in such an occasion. There are many shades of pink to choose from, the important thing is to have the right cut and style of your gown and choosing the right accessories to go with a pink gown. Make your wedding more attractive by trying out a pink wedding gown on your one special day.
